Laundry Room

The first item on our long list of to-dos for the summer was the basement bathroom. But in order to get to the bathroom, we needed to remodel our laundry room first, since the dryer vented through the bathroom wall, up and over the toilet and out the bathroom window. Of course, in order to move the dryer so we could vent it out the laundry room wall, we needed to remove the three ton industrial strength original 1940s model utility sink. In order to do that, we needed to call in a neighbor to help us lift the monstrous thing up our basement stairs and back down the deck stairs. Our neighbor greatly lamented the loss of the original sink. "Do you know you can't buy things like this anymore?" he asked. "Yeah," we said. "Do you know you can't lift this thing without getting a hernia?" He actually had us hold onto the sink until he could find someone who was remodeling an old house and would want it. He was sure there would be someone, and he was right. It only took a week.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the laundry room before, during and after our remodel. Ignore the plumber in the overalls--he did the original inspection on our house, and apparently that's the only picture we have of the original layout of the dryer. You'll also notice that we repainted the laundry room. The room looks great now just because it looks clean. It doesn't so much look great because of the color I selected. After all the painting we've done in this house, you'd think I could pick out decent colors by now. Turns out, not so much. But I'm sticking with the green. No repainting three times like the tiles in the upstairs bathroom. Or that's what I'm telling myself.

The laundry room isn't completely done, because we've already launched into the bathroom, and some of that mess is overflowing to the laundry room. But it's still greatly improved. Kudos to Joe for the homemade folding table utilizing the random sink cabinets we had on hand.
