Here are the pictures I promised a few weeks ago of our new dining set and sideboard. I'm in the picture for scale to prove to my mother that the table and sideboard do actually fit in my tiny dining room. See Mom, it fits.

There's no denying that the furniture makes the house look a lot classier. I mean, previously we were using a folding chair and three mismatching dining room chairs from garage sales, so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised, but it really made a big difference. Suddenly our house went from looking like grad students lived there to looking like a cute, remodeled old house.

See Mom, it fits. I'm pretty sure that's why that window is higher than the others in the first place. I mean, who in the 1940s didn't have a sidebar to put there? It even hides the giant floor grate, which was ugly despite the designer's best attempts to "hide" it by using wood-grained metal.

The table is just slightly smaller than our old one, and it really makes the room feel bigger. There are no leaves, however, so four is all you can seat, which means the upcoming visit by a large number of family members might be interesting. That leads me to the next picture...

Giant table, Batman! In the weeks it took me to post the pictures of the dining room, we also acquired a new table and chairs for the deck (you've gotta love Memorial weekend sales). This was the only time we've gone to purchase furniture for this house and not been limited on size. That's because our deck is larger than all of the rooms in our house. We'll take the biggest one, baby!

Bring on the visitors! But if it rains you'll all have to go home, because there's no way you'll fit at our little dining room table...
Nice furniture!
