Less Thesaurus, Please

This is a quote from the free local newspaper in our neighborhood, discussing a movie that will be playing at a small independent theater:

"Viewers will groan as the proceeding new level of audacious calamity befalling the people of Tar Creek in northern Oklahoma shocks in its epic ruination."

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen such a strong case of thesaurus overuse in one sentence before. It took me two tries to get past "audacious calamity." My take:

Readers did groan as the proceeding text of righteously bodacious description bemoaning the lack of an editor shocked in its epic overindulgence of adjectives.
