Our little moo cow didn't quite make it out trick or treating this year. She had a busy weekend of playing without any naps longer than 40 minutes, so by the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, she was pooped. She finally took a long nap with Dad on the couch.
After her nap we Skyped with family, and then when we realized she wasn't going to make it long enough to "help" hand out candy, we got her dressed up to go visit the neighbors around 4:45. She only made it to one neighbor. Here's Dad heading out with a very sleepy cow, and Mom holding her on our way back in.
After visiting the one neighbor, she had dinner and was fast asleep before the first trick-or-treaters arrived at 6pm. Even the doorbell ringing over and over didn't wake her up. Of course, after all the action was over, the street was quiet, and Mom and Dad were heading to bed, then she woke up every two hours sure that it was time to get up and play. She's been sleeping about 12 hours for a few weeks now, and it's amazing how quickly you re-adjust to not getting up in the night. Just a few weeks ago I was still getting up once a night to feed her, but now that I remember what it's like to sleep more than four hours at a stretch, getting up to calm her was way more difficult. We were afraid that she might be starting a new habit and we'd be in for a string of long nights awake, but last night she slept for 11 hours again so I think it was just the effects of a long weekend. And that was without having any sugar on Halloween! It makes me feel bad for handing candy out to all the tightly wound kids who rang our doorbell. Sorry parents!
