Harper's New Ride

Joe has been wanting to buy a kid-carrier backpack since Harper was born. Luckily I read somewhere that you shouldn't use backpacks with kids until they can sit up on their own, so I was able to deter Joe for a few months. When Harper reached that milestone it was a few months before Christmas, so I convinced him to wait a few more months. Now we were all out of excuses, though, so January 1st we put in an order for the Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier at REI.com.

Harper enjoyed being at eye level with me and didn't seem to mind when Joe "tested" the backpack by tipping backwards and forwards and side-to-side. She smiled through the whole thing. And though she stayed inside the backpack through these tests, she's such a peanut (8 months old today and still wearing some 3-6 month clothes!) the straps aren't small enough to actually strap her down. They kind of float above her shoulders, hitting her in the chin and providing a nice squishy object for her to chew.

The first weekend we had the backpack we had really cold weather so we didn't take her out, and the last few weekends we've had other things going on and just ran out of time. Hopefully this weekend we'll get a chance to test it on a short hike. Maybe if we put a pillow under her butt the shoulder straps will fit...
