In my last post I had big words about how annoying solicitors are and how I was going to put up a No Solicitation sign. Well, I didn't, and the very next day my doorbell rang at 4:00pm. I often don't answer the door because I'm working and it's generally not a friendly visit anyway, but I found out that last month our neighbor had tried to stop by to give Harper a Christmas present four different times and I never answered the door. So, this time I ran all the way downstairs from my home office and answered the door.
I expected a solicitor. What I got was an adorable curly-haired 7-year-old girl in pink rain boots and a purple coat...soliciting. In a high little voice she said, "My name is Gracie and I'm from Mitchell Elementary and I'm raising money for the Heart Assoc-ation." (The last word gave her some trouble.) "I was wondering if you wanted to donate."
I never, ever give money to solicitors. Not that I won't give money to charity--just not solicitors. But one day after posting about how annoying solicitors are, Gracie got money out of me. Twenty bucks, in fact, because that's the only bill I had in my wallet (Gracie informed me that I could pay with "money or check"). Apparently the way into my wallet is a cute kid with pink rain boots. I hope the other organizations don't catch on.
