The Girl in the Cupboard

 

This week Harper discovered the concept of doors and today she applied this new knowledge to discover the kitchen cupboard. Until now she might have played with the knobs a little bit, but she didn't know that the doors opened. Now she realized that inside there's a whole world that's just her size, and it's filled with new toys!

This morning she was up at 5:30, so tonight we were trying anything we could think of to keep her entertained and up past 6 PM, which is when she went to bed last night. At 5:45 and 15 minutes to go until our imposed dinner time, her happy fascination with the cupboard was a welcome relief for the entire family.

She particularly liked the mini Crockpot and its lid, wielding it around like a cymbal/shield.

She enjoyed climbing up and down out of the cupboard as much as she liked playing with the stuff inside it. In the midst of all this joy she actually took her first wobbly mini-steps, going from the cupboard to Dad's arms. Joe and I were both there to see the first steps, but I was still in the process of turning the camera on so didn't get a photo or video. At least I had the camera in my hands--most of the time I don't even know where it is, or do know and don't think to use it.

We tried to get her to walk again, but of course she refused to perform on command. By this point she was so over-tired and excited that all she could do was leap into Dad's arms. There was no hope of something as coordinated as walking. This was the closest we could get on video. Hopefully she'll try again soon!
